Combined lifestyle intervention for businesses
The COVID-19 pandemic was not the first challenge employers have faced when it comes to the fitness, wellbeing and mental health of their employees. The issues then were focused on things like working from home. However, the raise of the retirement age was a real wake-up call for employers.
Lifestyle Program
In addition to the wake-up calls mentioned above, there are also legal frameworks such as the two years of mandatory sick pay and the rising cost of absenteeism insurance. These are incentives for employers to do something about the wellbeing and lifestyle of their employees.
It's time to take action. NL Actief is an organization that represents 1,100 companies that strive to improve the health and wellbeing of Dutch people and generate ideas to make and keep employees healthy. In cooperation with Noaber, a pilot program has been developed and is being tested that uses the latest scientific insights into health, behavioral change, and corporate culture change to create an ideal Combined Lifestyle Intervention (Gecombineerde Leefstijlinterventie, or GLI) for companies.
The Zonneoord Estate is the testing grounds for this program and companies on the health campus are able to participate in the pilot.
Our goal is to further raise awareness and help employees improve their health and wellbeing.
The pilot includes a preventive medical examination, questionnaires, employer and employee interviews and a personal health and lifestyle program. This means that, besides the GLI, there is also the possibility of including corporate culture and the physical work environment in the approach.
Noaber sees this pilot as a chance to explore activities in the field of preventive health in the workplace. We are happy to be actively involved in the project and to participate in the pilot's steering committee. There are already many initiatives regarding employee health, but literature shows that most are not effective and not scientifically based. What appeals to us is that this pilot works with proven interventions and the impact is measured.
We hope that this new path can help as many Dutch people as possible to live healthier lives. For this reason, it is important that we consider maximum long-term reach and embedding in the NL Actief network. A good description of both the interventions and the resulting measurements will be an important end product that can help others on their way.
