Mental Health and Resilience

There is no health without mental health!

The Dutch are struggling with their mental health and resilience. This affects overall health, social participation and socioeconomic developments.

Developments

There are several recent developments in the domain of mental health and resilience. In 2022, a national campaign was launched by the Dutch government: Mentale Gezondheid: van ons allemaal (Mental Health: for all of us). There are informative files available on topics such as Youth and Mental Health from the Trimbos Institute. We also see several initiatives aimed at innovation in mental health care. Nevertheless, there are still significant gaps in the field where Noaber can offer added value; especially in the field of prevention.

Our analysis

An in-depth analysis, fueled by interviews with experts, literature reviews and our broader program experiences, revealed that we can add value by focusing mainly on the development of (young) children and their parents. The period from the first 1,000 days to about 25 years has the greatest short and long-term effects on mental health.

In modern society, we are always 'turned on’ and that overstimulation has become an everyday reality.

People's ability to thrive and cope well with life's challenges is enhanced by positive social context. And this is precisely where so much has changed in recent decades. Our other programs - social health and lifestyle – are also connected to this, and the synergy of these programs reinforces each other.

Finally, in the modern world it is more difficult to find and live meaningful lives, while meaning is precisely the catalyst we need for resilience in dealing with life's challenges.

Action Points

This program has developed three action points:

Goals

Our goal with these action points is to strengthen existing initiatives, bring together stakeholders and partners from the field, and identify innovative pilot projects that are scalable and can generate significant social impact.

Collaboration

We are working closely with Nationale Nederlanden for this program.
