Towards a future-proof and affordable healthcare system

How can we ensure that we promote population health? What interventions does this require, how do we organize it and how can we finance these goals? That is what this program is about.

Multi-morbidity, higher costs, scarcer resources and greater differences in quality of life between groups in society. These are some of the trends we see in the healthcare field. The quality, accessibility and affordability of the current healthcare system are under pressure.

Actively seeking innovative solutions

A health-oriented and population-based healthcare framework, including appropriate funding, is needed to put a stop to this. If we are to achieve this without a major crisis as a catalyst and without a total systemic change, we will have to actively come up with innovative solutions.

By changing the way healthcare is financed, organized and monitored, we expect more health gains, better quality care and lower costs in a population.

Structural funding, research into effects

There are successful examples abroad with some characteristic similarities: sufficient money to finance the start-up of a transition from a focus on care to a focus on health. In addition, organizational power is arranged and information is available at n=1 and n=population level. In the Netherlands we lack structural and sustainable healthcare funding and there is insufficient measurement of what does and does not work in the field of healthcare interventions.
